TQT hosts Lunch & Learn: Velocity

Event held on Thursday, February 16, 2023

On Thursday, February 16, TQT hosted a Lunch & Learn with Velocity, a globally recognized entrepreneurship ecosystem centred at the University of Waterloo that aims to accelerate founder-built companies. The speakers included: John Dick, Director of Velocity Campus; Sarrah Lal, Director of Velocity Incubator; Moazam Khan, Director of Velocity Health; and Ross Robinson, Velocity Fund Lead.

Dick opened the session by highlighting the valuable resources Velocity offers to the UW and TQT communities, including specialized advisory services, workspaces and product development resources, expert guidance, non-dilutive funding, and networks of investors and professionals. Lal then discussed the shared incubator space in downtown Kitchener that includes all necessary resources to help entrepreneurs make a significantly better product, gain a deeper understanding of market growth and impact, obtain increased funding, and fully brace the founder mentality. Khan detailed the Velocity Fund as one of Canada’s largest health tech commercialization platforms that offers validation across the health technology commercialization platforms. Velocity Heath can help researchers gain traction in taking a health problem to a launched product. Finally, Robinson explained the Velocity Fund, a resource open to anyone across all the Velocity programs to invest in companies at the pre-seed stage. The presentation was followed by a Q&A session, which led to engaging discussions with the speakers and Velocity business advisor Scott Rose and Executive Director Adrien Côté. TQT thanks the Velocity team for sharing their resources with our quantum community.
