    Overview

Term: 2 years, with the possibility of a 1-year extension

Are you a highly motivated and talented researcher with a passion for quantum physics and nanoelectronics? Are you interested in exploring the exciting frontier where quantum transport meets quantum optics? If so, we invite you to join our dynamic and innovative research team as a Postdoctoral Researcher. One position with a focus on quantum optics is available.

    Research Area: Quantum Optics

    Application Deadline: TBD

Our research project focuses on the cutting-edge development of next-generation quantum light sources using tailored semiconductor nanoelectronic devices. Quantum light sources play a pivotal role in quantum information processing, quantum communication, and quantum sensing applications. By harnessing the unique properties of these devices, we aim to create novel and efficient quantum light sources with significant commercialization potential.

    Responsibilities:

As a Postdoctoral Researcher on this project, you will be at the forefront of scientific discovery and technological advancement. Your responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:

    • Conducting experimental research at the interface of quantum transport and quantum optics, with a focus on developing advanced semiconductor nanoelectronic devices for quantum light emission.
    • Designing and fabricating state-of-the-art nanoelectronic structures using cutting-edge nanofabrication techniques.
    • Investigating the quantum optical characteristics of the devices.
    • Collaborating with our interdisciplinary team of physicists, engineers, and material scientists to achieve project milestones and goals.
    • Providing mentorship to graduate student researchers on the team.
    • Analyzing and interpreting experimental data, as well as contributing to scientific publications and presentations.
    • Exploring the potential commercial applications of the developed quantum light sources and participating in technology transfer efforts.

    Qualifications:

To be successful in this role, you should possess the following qualifications:

A Ph.D. degree in Physics, Applied Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field, with a strong background in quantum mechanics, solid-state physics, and semiconductor devices. Demonstrated expertise in experimental research, particularly in nanoelectronics, quantum transport, or quantum optics.

    • Experience with nanofabrication techniques and familiarity with cleanroom environments.
    • Proficiency in data analysis and scientific programming languages (e.g., Python, MATLAB, or similar).
    • Proven track record of research excellence, as evidenced by publications in reputable scientific journals and conference presentations.
    • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.

    Benefits:

This position offers an excellent opportunity to work in a dynamic and supportive research environment at the forefront of quantum technology. You will have access to state-of-the-art research facilities and resources, as well as opportunities for collaboration with leading experts in the field. Postdoctoral fellows at Waterloo receive extended healthcare benefits including dental, life insurance, and sick leave, as well as one month of annual vacation time.

    How to Apply:

To apply for this position, please submit the following documents via email c/o Sarah Wang (sarah.wang@uwaterloo.ca):

    • A cover letter expressing your interest in the position and your relevant qualifications.
    • Curriculum vitae (CV) detailing your educational background, research experience, and list of publications.
    • Contact information for at least two academic or professional references.
