AAAS Quantum Media Breakfast
Event held on Saturday, February 17, 2018
On Saturday the University of Waterloo sponsored a press breakfast as part of the American Association for the Advancement of Science’s (AAAS) 2018 annual meeting in Austin, Texas. The breakfast’s theme was “Canada’s Approach to Developing Quantum Technologies.” It featured three directors from the Université de Sherbrooke, University of British Columbia, and the University of Waterloo that had been awarded the Canada First Research Excellence Fund (CFREF).
The directors were Michel Pioro-Ladrière of the Institut Quantique (Université de Sherbrooke), Andrea Damascelli of the Quantum Matter Institute (University of British Columbia), and our own Dr. David Cory of the Institute for Quantum Computing (University of Waterloo). Each gave answers about the recent increase in funding for quantum technologies, and their potential impact in markets like computing, information security, and sensing.
