PVD seminar introduces film growth techniques and potential applications
Event held on Wednesday, January 29, 2025
Last week, the Quantum-Nano Fabrication and Characterization Facility (QNFCF) and Transformative Quantum Technologies (TQT) hosted the Physical Vapour Deposition (PVD) Introductory Seminar, joined by speaker Mike Miller (Angstrom Engineering).
The seminar, aimed at those with little to no PVD experience, saw over 50 attendees, including undergraduate and graduate students as well as postdoctoral fellows and staff.
During the event, Mike Miller highlighted the most commonly encountered PVD film growth techniques, such as evaporation and sputtering. He further elaborated on the the mechanisms of various sub-types of evaporation and sputtering equipment, while identifying their advantages and disadvantages for various applications.
The talk generated discussions on the selection of appropriate process variables, as well as on the equipment sub-types that would be best suited for specific applications.
Thank you to our presenters, attendees, and organizers.
