Two postdoctoral positions are available at the Institute for Quantum Computing, University of Waterloo, in the area of quantum computing theory, with particular emphasis on methods for characterizing and validating quantum computing errors (QCVV), error-aware complication strategies and fault-tolerant quantum computation. The positions will be supervised by Joseph Emerson and/or Joel Wallman. The research will be performed in close collaboration with several world-leading experimental labs seeking to design and optimize control of quantum computing hardware. Successful candidates will also have opportunities for close collaboration with other leading researchers from the University of Waterloo and the Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics.
Applicants for these positions must hold a PhD degree in physics, math or a related field. Applicants should preferably have prior research experience in one or more of the following areas: open quantum systems, quantum error correction, quantum control, QCVV theory, QCVV software development and related areas. Applicants should have a strong record of publications in highly recognized peer-reviewed journals in one or more of the above areas.
The appointment will be for two years with the possibility of renewal for a third year subject to performance review. The salary will be highly competitive and commensurate with experience. Candidates may be eligible for significant salary top-ups through synergistic activities.
The University of Waterloo respects, appreciates and encourages diversity. We welcome applications from all qualified individuals including women, members of visible minorities, Aboriginal peoples, and persons with disabilities. All qualified candidates, including those who may have experienced career interruptions, are encouraged to apply.
